About me

Hi! 👋 I’m Paula, a journalist specialising in communication and digital marketing who loves makeup. But we’re not here to go over my resume, are we?

For years now, I’ve dedicated a large part of my time to playing around with my brushes, and it was in late 2016 that I dared to share my ideas and opinions through posts and social media. This project has become an integral part of my life and represents different pillars of my existence: creativity, diversity, and the constant desire for self-improvement.

To me, makeup is a form of expression and a way to enhance what is already beautiful. That’s something I’ve always enjoyed sharing with my friends and family… and now, with my readers!

Some see it as a way to cover imperfections -and it is, too-, but for me, it has become a way to discover creative aspects of myself that I didn’t know existed. That’s why I always say that Flaw Decay was the starting point of my professional career, as it combines two things I am passionate about: journalism (research, writing, helping others with information) and cosmetics.

How It All Began

Flaw Decay started as a class project. The idea was to abandon the blog once the “assignment” was completed, as keeping it up-to-date without sacrificing quality was going to take time and effort… but too many people encouraged me to continue. This journey has helped me meet amazing people and brands that are brimming with talent, and for a restless soul like mine, that is a great motivationto keep going.

Moreover, from a young age, one of my great passions has been writing. Stories, short tales, diaries, scripts… any opportunity was good to open a new Word document and invent new stuff. And now, the way to continue with that little great hobby of mine is through my blog posts. As Bradbury once said, and as one of the quotes on my room door reads: “You only fail when you stop writing.”

Why Flaw Decay

If you’ve ever wondered how the name of my blog was born, don’t worry – you’re not the first. To me, Flaw Decay is one of the points of makeup: making imperfections go away. I must admit that many of the names I wanted to use were already taken, but I wouldn’t change this one for anything in the world. I wanted an original and easy-to-remember name (although I later realized that maybe it was only easy for me), that I liked and represented what makeup makes me feel and what I want to convey. Flaw Decay.

Fun fact: the lyrics of the song Sweet Things by The Pretty Reckless influenced the choice of the blog’s name. I listened to it a lot during the brainstorming sessions for names, and I was very struck by the lyrics “I don’t mind decay” and the reference to drag queens, who are an essential part of the makeup community. So no, my inspiration wasn’t Urban Decay… at least not 100%!

Although I could keep talking until I bore you (if I haven’t already) and give more details, I prefer people to get to know me by what they see, not by what I tell about myself. So I hope you enjoy my blog, my projects, and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me or leave a comment!
