Hasta hace unos años, el contouring no era demasiado conocido fuera de los maquilladores aficionados o profesionales. Como si los rostros “a lo Kim Kardashian” fueran pura magia, y no el gran trabajo de maquilladores como Mario Dedivanovic. En la actualidad, y con la fama que ha ganado esta estrella de la televisión y su familia, el contouring ha pasado a ser un básico. Si se utiliza bien, puede redefinir el rostro e incluso quitarle un par de kilitos.
Up until a few years ago, contouring wasn’t very well-known by people other than amateur and professional makeup artists. As if the classic Kim Kardashian sculpted face was pure magic and not the great work of makeup artists like Mario Dedivanovic. Today, with the fame that this television star and her family have gained, contouring has become a basic. If used well, it can redefine the face and even make it look like you’ve lost weight.
Lo que hacen los productos de contorno es jugar con las sombras para crear un efecto que destaca, oculta y/o modifica los huesos faciales. Se puede utilizar de forma sutil o estridente, aunque lo último lo recomendaría para fotografía ya que queda muy evidente y poco natural.
Contour products play with shadows to create an effect that highlights, hides and/or modifies facial bones. It can be used subtly or stridently, but I’d only recommend going too harsh when it comes to photography since it can look too obvious and unnatural.

The NYX Wonder Stick is a double-ended stick with a cream highlighter and contour on each side. There are 6 tones available (the one that I’m using is the Light/Medium one). It retails for $12.00 or £10.50, and it is cruelty-free, but not vegan.
Si lo he escogido es porque, de todos los que he probado, es el que mejor me ha ido. Se difumina muy bien y queda muy natural. Es bastante modulable, por lo que se puede ir añadiendo producto hasta conseguir una definición muy intensa — dentro de lo que el color puede alcanzar.
I’ve chosen this one because, of all the contour sticks that I’ve tried, this is the one that has worked the best for me. It blends very well and it is very natural. It is also quite modulable; you can add as much product as you want to get more definition — but it also depends on the color, of course.
Tutorial
Contorno: suelo utilizarlo en la nariz, las mejillas, en la mandíbula, y en el labio inferior. Lo primero ayuda a adelgazar la nariz, lo segundo y tercero hace lo mismo para casi toda la cara (haciendo que la papada desaparezca en la medida de lo posible, por ejemplo). Y lo último, que no es tan conocido, es algo que llevo haciendo desde hace bastante tiempo y que es lo que más me gusta utilizar, porque da la sensación de agrandar los labios al crear una sombra por debajo. Siempre lo recomiendo, tanto a gente con labios pequeños como grandes. A veces, si creo que el contorno no queda tan intenso como me gustaría, aplico polvos.
Contour: I usually apply it on my nose, cheeks, jaw, and lower lip. The first helps to thin the nose, the second and third do the same for almost the entire face (making double chins disappear as notably as possible, for example). The last one (contouring the lower lip) is not that much of a well-known technique, but it is something that I’ve been doing for quite some time that I love using because it makes the lips look bigger than they actually are by creating a shadow underneath. I always recommend it, both to people with small and large lips. To finish it off (and if I’m not pleased with the intensity), I apply powder rather than building it up with the same contour stick.
Iluminador: para esta parte utilizo dos productos, ya que prefiero iluminar la zona de debajo de los ojos con corrector líquido en vez de en crema. En este caso, estoy utilizando el corrector Photo Focus de Wet N Wild (3,99€). En la nariz, la barbilla, en el arco de la ceja y en la frente, uso el de NYX.
Highlight: for this part, I use two products. I prefer to brighten the area under the eyes with liquid corrector instead of cream. In this case, I am using the Photo Focus corrector by Wet N Wild ($3.99). On the nose, chin, browbone and forehead, I use the NYX one.

Perfeccionar esta técnica es mucho más fácil con productos en crema como éste, ya que se tiene más control que con una brocha grande aplicando contorno en polvo. El precio está muy bien para lo que te llevas de cantidad y de calidad. ¡Lo recomiendo muchísimo!
I find that perfecting this technique is much easier with cream products like this since you have more control than with a large brush applying powder contour. The price is very good for what you get, quantity and quality-wise. I highly recommend it!
