¡Hola chicos! Con el comienzo de 2018, también lo hacen mis intentos de conseguir mis propósitos de Año Nuevo. Este en concreto es algo que he querido hacer durante mucho tiempo, pero siempre ponía excusas para no comenzar. Así que, siendo todo lo “año nuevo, vida nueva” que nunca he sido, y para que este blog se convierta en el blog que quise que fuera desde el principio: ¡Flaw Decay va a ser un blog cruelty-free!
Hey guys! With the beginning of 2018, so do my attempts at being successful with my NYE resolutions. This one is something I’ve planned on doing for a while, but I felt like I didn’t have the guts to, so I waited and waited… until I realized I could keep giving excuses forever. So I’m being all “new year, new me” (which I’m never like) to make this blog exactly what I wanted it to be when I started. Flaw Decay is going cruelty-free!
A partir de ahora, todo el maquillaje del que voy a hacer reseñas va a estar libre de crueldad animal. Esta opción es arriesgada porque, lamentablemente, hay muchas marcas grandes que testean en animales, y algunas de ellas son realmente buenas. Ser cruelty-free también puede ser costoso si quieres que los productos sean buenos y no demasiado caros (la mayoría de las veces), pero eso también me ayudará con mis objetivos de presupuesto en 2018.
From now on, all of the makeup I will review and talk about is going to be cruelty-free. This option is risky because sadly, there’s a lot of huge brands that aren’t cruelty-free and some of them are actually really good. Being cruelty-free can also be pricey if you want the products to be good and not too expensive (most of the times), but it will also help me with my budget purposes in 2018.
La crueldad animal es inútil
Es importante que sepáis que existen métodos más precisos para determinar si un cosmético nos dañará o no, que no incluye animales en el proceso, y que son incluso más baratos. La cosa es que la mayoría de las marcas no quieren cooperar porque quieren vender en China. Ahora mismo, China es el único país que exige por ley que las empresas prueben sus productos en animales antes de que ingresen al mercado. Compañías como Maybelline o Estée Lauder podrían funcionar perfectamente sin ese mercado, pero simplemente han decidido escoger la ambición sobre la compasión, y eso es algo que no puedo apoyar. Entiendo que puede ser costoso salir de un gran mercado como China y que algunas empresas solo realizan pruebas allí, pero no debería tratarse diferente por ello. Siguen contribuyendo al maltrato animal, y eso es algo que no soporto y no apoyaré. Tenemos que ser nosotros quienes dén el primer paso. Decir que estamos en contra de estas actividades, pero seguir comprando de ellos, no ayuda en nada a la causa.
Cruelty is worthless
FYI, there are more precise methods to determine if a cosmetic will damage us or not, that don’t include animals in the process, and they’re even cheaper. The thing is, most brands don’t want to cooperate because they want to sell in China. Nowadays, China is the only country that requires by law that companies test their products on animals before they get into the market. I find that companies like Maybelline or Estée Lauder could do perfectly without that market, but they just pick ambition over compassion. I understand that it can be expensive to step out of a large market like China and that some companies only test there, but it makes no difference. They’re still contributing to cruelty against animals, and that’s something I can’t stand and I won’t support. It starts with us. Saying we’re against these activities but still buying from them is not helping at all to the cause.
¿Qué haré con los productos inacabados?
Voy a terminar los productos. Seguramente, empezaré a hacer publicaciones de “productos acabados”, en las que hablaré sobre los productos y proporcionaré alternativas sin crueldad para ellos. Si el producto no me gusta tanto, pero creo que a alguien que conozco sí, lo regalaré. Después de todo, tirarlos a la basura no hará absolutamente nada.
What will I do with my unfinished products?
I’m going to finish the products and probably start doing some “empties” posts, in which I’ll talk about the products and give you cruelty-free alternatives for them. If I’m not crazy about them but I think someone I know will like them, I’ll just give them to another person. After all, throwing them away is going to do absolutely nothing.
Retos: ¿productos veganos? ¿Empresas no verificadas?
Como siempre, hay algunos desafíos con esta elección, empezando por los productos veganos (productos que no provienen de animales, sin leche o miel, por ejemplo). Por mucho que me gustaría comprometerme a ello, muchas de las marcas sin crueldad animal no son veganas, por lo que sería MUY limitante. Me entristece decir que los productos que usaré van a estar libres de crueldad solamente, pero me aseguraré de señalar si los productos son veganos o no.
También hay algunas marcas que dicen ser cruelty-free, al menos en sus FAQs, pero no se encuentran en listas oficiales. Siempre señalaré cuando las marcas no sean verificadas como CF y haré toda la investigación que pueda antes de subir o comprar nada. No hablaré sobre marcas que dicen estar libres de crueldad animal pero que se venden en China (fuera de Hong Kong, que es el único lugar que no requiere que prueben en animales), como Benefit Cosmetics.
Challenges: Vegan products? Unverified companies?
As always, there are some challenges to this choice. First of all, vegan products. As much as I’d love to commit to that, some cruelty-free brands aren’t vegan, and trying to stick to vegan-friendly companies only would be VERY limiting. I’m saddened to say that the products I will be using are going to be cruelty-free only, but I will make sure to point out if the products are vegan or not.
Some brands are said to be cruelty-free -at least in their FAQs-, but they aren’t found in cruelty-free lists. I will disclaim when brands aren’t verified CF brands and I will do as much research as I can! I won’t talk about brands who say they’re cruelty-free but are sold in China (outside Hong-Kong, which is the only place that doesn’t require them to test on animals), like Benefit Cosmetics.
